Copy slides between presentations after removal of "Reuse Slides" button (PowerPoint for Microsoft 365) *

Yesterday (31 July 2025) Microsoft removed the Reuse Slides button from the Home and Insert ribbons in PowerPoint for Microsoft 365.

"We're retiring the Reuse Slide feature from the PowerPoint Ribbon to streamline the user experience and reduce redundancy."

Really, Microsoft? Removing a genuinely helpful tool doesn't feel like a "streamline" to me. Rant over! Let's have a look what we can do.

If you're lucky (or using PowerPoint 2019, 2021 or 2024) you still find Reuse Slides under Home > New Slide and you can add one or more slides to your presentation from another, without having to open the other file.

But if Reuse Slides is gone, try these simple alternatives to copy slides between presentations. (Number 1 is my favourite!)

  1. Open both presentations (dual monitors help) and drag slides between the thumbnail panes.
  2. Use Copy (CTRL + C) and Paste (CTRL + V).

To keep the original formatting, click on the Ctrl button and select Keep Source Formatting. Remember? Don't ignore Clippy in disguise!

The silver lining (sort of)... There is no need to navigate a dialog box. And you have one less button cluttering your ribbon. (Yes, I'm trying to be positive here!) That said, you can still add "Reuse Slides" to the Quick Access Toolbar - for now, at least.

See tip_755.php for steps how to find All Commands.
