Weekly Computer Tip # 105

Set all the folders on your computer to match the current folder's view settings (Microsoft Windows)

For years I kept changing the appearance of items in my various folders from "Small Icons" to "Details", so that I'd be able to sort the items by name or by date. It wasn't long ago (shame on me?!) I found out you can set all the folders on your computer to match the current folders view settings.

Here's how:

  1. Change the appearance of the items in one of your folders the way you want them to be. (For instance, Details view, sorted by Date Modified.)
  2. Choose the Tools, Folder Options command.
  3. On the View tab of the Folder Options dialog box, click the Like Current Folder button. (In Windows XP, this button is labelled Apply to All Folders.)
  4. Click Yes to confirm the operation.

You now have set your own preferred view, which - of course - you can change as normal.
