quickly hide toolbars to increase page viewing space (Internet Explorer)

First of all apologies for last week's radio silence. (I was in Holland for business and spent some time catching up with friends and family.) Hope you used the spare time wisely and revisited some of the oldies from the ever-growing tip archive ;-) (see http://www.roem.co.uk/hints.html)

But here's a new one ... an excellent keyboard shortcut to quickly increase your page viewing space in Internet Explorer.

Here's how:

  1. launch Internet Explorer
  2. press F11

OK, OK ... you still get the Standard Buttons toolbar with buttons such as Back and Refresh at the top. To also hide that one, simply right-click anywhere on the toolbar and select Auto-Hide. When you move the mouse to the top of the screen the toolbar will automatically show itself again.

Once you want to get back from full screen mode to "normal mode" simply press F11 again. Yep, it's a toggle!

Oh, and there is good news for those of you who use Mozilla Firefox (my stats indicate that 23 percent of my site visitors use Firefox) ... this tip works for you too!

Until next week.
